Proposed as a modul-dance artist by Dansens Hus Stockholm [Sweden]
Akademien is a place for discussions. A place where any topic can become useful. By a common decision collective dancing may occur.
When we last saw Kristiina Viiala and Johan Thelander, they were lying on a beach, deeply involved in a discussion about vanishing points and whether people disappear or not when they pass over the horizon. Now they are back, accompanied by Zoë Poluch and Ludvig Daae. The four of them constitute Akademien, together with people they have met or read about. They will concentrate on evolution, adjustment, utilitarianism and maybe some astrology.
– Let me tell you about the particulars. I walk into the room and they are discussing words, trying to weave together a common sense. Words and their stories and use are shaken.
– Yes, now that I recall, their faces did have expressions of engagement, as if maybe they were discussing something difficult or important or at least useful. Like utilitarianism.
– And then what?
– The sun sets. I watch them move to the beat and I wonder what I will cook for dinner tonight.
– I guess meaning can be more or less useful, and when meaning ceases to be useful it doesn’t become meaningless, it’s just used a bit less, like a bear hibernating in winter.
– So meaning takes a little nap?
Can you practice generosity? Can a horoscope be dangerous?
It’s a new piece or maybe it’s a discussion club.
